Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München Amgen Scholars Program at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich: In this summer program up to 25 undergraduate students will have the opportunity to work for 10 weeks in laboratories at LMU’s HighTechCampus on the southern rim of Munich, which offers a unique academic and scientific environment for the life sciences with many renowned research institutions such as the LMU Biocenter, LMU Medical Center Grosshadern, LMU Center for Drug Research, LMU Gene Center, the Center for Integrated Protein Science (CIPSM), the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, and the Max Planck Institutes for Neurobiology and Biochemistry. The students will be involved in hands-on research guided by leading scientists and their teams. Possible research topics for the students’ lab-work are embedded within the fields of biochemistry, structural, molecular, cell, and developmental biology, cellular and organismic neurobiology, computational neuroscience, and physiological sciences. In addition to the intensive research program, weekly seminars, lectures, and panel discussions offer insights into state-of-the art research topics and techniques. Additionally, students will participate in special forums that will highlight increasingly relevant, research-related issues like bioethics or philosophy. A four-day retreat will set the stage for this nine-week summer program, introducing students to faculty and covered research topics. This Amgen Scholars Program offers a chance for selected students to complement the tight schedule of most bachelor’s programs with an in-depth research experience by using state-of-the-art methods and addressing the latest scientific topics. The opening retreat, social group activities and the international mix constitution of participants will make the program a memorable experience. Interested students from across Europe are invited to visit the Program website for further details.
