University of California, San Francisco The UCSF Amgen Scholars Program provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to conduct research in the biological, biomedical and behavioral sciences. Through this comprehensive nine-and-a-half-week summer experience, the Amgen Scholars Program strives to prepare students for graduate study and a research career in the health sciences. Accepted students are matched with a faculty mentor and complete an original project under the guidance of their mentor. At the end of the summer program, Amgen Scholars present their findings with a written abstract, oral presentation and poster presentation. In addition to daily work in the laboratory, students attend biweekly seminars and workshops that include faculty research presentations, journal talks, information about the graduate school admissions process, life as a graduate student and skill-building workshops. Amgen Scholars are offered an optional GRE preparation course, and a variety of social events are planned throughout the summer. Amgen Scholars attend a mid-summer Amgen Scholars Symposium that includes all 2007 scholars from 10 different institutions.
